How does our resume-writing process work? It’s quite simple:

 

 

 

 

 

  • Service Selection & Payment:  Choose your service(s) and process payment securely through Paypal.
  • Information Gathering:  Complete my branding questionnaire and prepare for our phone interview. Provide additional details, if needed, within 3 business days.
  • Document Drafting:  I create your resume draft within 10 to 14 business days. If you purchase a LinkedIn profile and/or a bio, these will be drafted after your resume is finalized. I leverage an 8-step process to design your resume:
  • Branding
  • Layout Selection
  • Positioning
  • Resume Structure
  • Key Word Benchmarking
  • Content Development
  • Brand Messaging
  • Style Selection
  • Editing:  Edit your drafts and return documents with Tracked Changes. I process your edits within 2 business days. You have 2 rounds of edits available to you.
  • Finalization:  After final proofing, I package your resume in Word, PDF, and ASCII text formats. Additional documents and services are delivered by email.

Even though this process is straightforward, that doesn’t mean you might not have questions. Here are the ones I get asked the most:

How long does this whole process take?

In general, 10 days or so from the date of our phone consult. This can extend a bit when I have a waiting list, but I will always alert you to that fact at the time you order. I also always repeat it at the time of our consult so you have a clear sense of when to expect document delivery. Altogether, from your date of purchase to finalization, it can take 2-3 weeks, depending on how long it takes you to get information to me and how long it takes you to turn around edits.

How much information do you need from me?

Enough, but not toooo much. Generally speaking, I need your most recent resume, 3-6 achievements for your positions back to the year 2000, and a completed branding questionnaire. I sometimes also ask for performance evaluations, sales results, or samples of your work. I do limit how much information you give me though, because too many details creates confusion and bogs down the process. Hence, I will not review more than 2 sample job postings or 1 resume.

How are my documents delivered to me?

I currently work on a PC, which means I deliver documents via email in MS Word. Finalized resumes are delivered in MS Word, PDF, and ASCII text files.  Please note that if you do not have MS Word or you use a Mac, you will likely experience “translation errors” in your document which I cannot fix for you. While these are usually minor, only you can fix them, because they are occurring on your end, not mine.

What hours do you work? Do you work weekends?

I take phone calls and conduct client consultations from 9 am to 6 pm eastern Monday through Thursday, and 9 am to 4 pm eastern on Fridays. I reserve weekends and holidays for my family.

Do you have a waiting list?

Yes, though it’s length varies from week to week. Lately it’s been running about 1-2 weeks. That means that it takes 1-2 weeks for you to receive your drafts from the date of our phone consult.

Do you take rush orders?

In a word, no. Since I have a waiting list, I don’t feel it’s fair to my clients to allow someone to pay me extra to jump the line.

Why are your prices so high?

They’re not, actually. Seriously – it depends on which resume writers you compare me with. If you check the large resume services known in the industry as “mills” (because they run a high-volume operation), you’ll find that my prices are higher – that is because I deliver a higher quality product with more in-depth information gathering. If you compare me with my true peers – those with similar credentials, experience, and processes, you’ll find I am actually a bit lower priced.

The bottom line when it comes to purchasing a resume service is this: What level of service do you want? What quality of product do you want? How much is it worth to you to land a new job? If you want exceptional, comprehensive service and a top-drawer product that will help you to shorten your time to reemployment by 25% to 50%, then I suspect you’ll find my prices exceedingly reasonable.
